Unfortunately as a public domain forum we will be subject to some spamming.
However, I have changed the features of the board now so that you have to log into view/post.
At least it should help.

Could you not make it so that any new accounts have to be authorised by an admin/mod therefore stopping most if not all the spam accounts?

That option has always been available but its difficult to see what might be a spam account from the information given.
