Although the digital age is already with us it seems that we just cannot loose the shackle of hard currency. You would have thought that in the 41st millennium they would have evolved way beyond such things as “hard cash” however it was swiftly found by the Imperial Central Bank Ministorium (ICBM) that if trade was to exist in any form between disparate species and different planets you require the adaptability to accept the local hard currency at a steady exchange rate.
To this end Ministorium launched the Standard Template Exchange Rate. At an unparalleled level humans negotiated with Xenos and came up with a generic exchange rate so that all races could trade with each other.
That was the idea anyway…however, since when to pure humans ever stick by negotiations with Xenos scum?
As we start the system though the STER is stable and all currencies are valued at a 1:1 exchange rate. Perhaps the best and longer lasting effect of the STER is to standardise the currencies of the differing races…now even Orks and there subspecies have a standard “coinage” that they all use and understand has a set value!
The STER is set each lunar year by the ICBM and this rate is broadcast on every channel and by any means needed and is fluid. Some years the Imperial Credit (IG) is high but more often than not worthy investors look elsewhere…whilst the Armageddon wars raged the Ivory Tallon and Tau Scale rose whilst the IG, Die Weald and Golden Groat fell.
The ICBM deal with economics on a GALACTIC scale! Whilst clearly an establishment of the Imperium, like the Administratum, they consider themselves not directly controlled by the Imperium. IBCM operatives are cunning and resourceful, money lenders they may be…helpless…they are not. Suffice to say that the last recorded successful robbery of an IBCM installation was more than 500 years ago and that was during a full scale planetary invasion which only ended with a quarantine and orbital bombardment.
Currencies:
Each race has its own traditional currency and only since the STER have they been standardised. Each will be represented in its hard currency form by a laminated card of a set value of 10 units.
Imperial Credits – The currency of all loyal (and some, not so loyal) Imperial citizens. Red cards.
Golden Groats – Orkoids (sometimes referred to as golden grots)
Ivory Tallons – Eldar and associated. White cards
Die Wealds – Chaos. Black cards
Tau Scale – Tau and associated. Purple cards
Income:
Each player will receive a value of currency in there local form deposited into there player account for each event pre-booked. If cash is required it can be withdrawn via the ICBM operative who will be present in the neutral zone at each game site.
Players who pay on the gate will also receive the same currency value but it will be issued in cash once a valid character submission has been received (and you’ve paid of course!).
Intergalactic Market:
There will be a “healthy” black market available. Trades can be found anywhere if you look for them but one recognised resource would be the ICBM again, as money lenders and pawn brokers they manage to stockpile goods that they can then offer for sale to the highest bidder in regular auctions. These auctions are open to all races and will be held at events and during downtime.
