From what i understand no rules have been brought up for the use of shotguns or like fro the guard. Most airsoft shotty fire about 3 bb's and this is the main reason they stand a chance against many larger aeg's so in theory because you have to pump and have a majorly limited ammo compared to aeg's shotgun would have to make up with at least dealing 2 damage with knockback. Is this sounding right so far? Oh and a few picture ideas on what the shotgun should look like: www.planetfortress.com/tf2models/previews/Battle%20Grounds%2040K/Shotgun_Large.jpgNote it would be based on a De Beneli M3 Shorty

If bolt guns only do one point of damage why would shot guns do more? One damage and knockback would seem more in keeping......

Ooooo...feel a ruling coming on... BOLTGUNS: A bolters main advantage over a regular weapon (las or autogun) is magazine capacity. I toyed with giving different ranged weapons different types of "Damage" capacity, however, I quickly realised that it wasn't a really viable method if I wanted to keep the system Fast Paced and Self-Policing. Ranged weapons are mostly ONE point damage weapons. However, in the case of our Boltgun...it has access to using a Hi-Cap magazine (in keeping I think with the depiction of the weapons in the hobby of 40k...since when do you see Space Marines with ammo pouches??). Hi-Cap magazine means you can put more shots downrange...which In Theory means you can do more damage to your targets overall. SHOTGUNS: These will be classed as Tier One weapons. One point of damage, knockback ruling (the same as ALL firearms). Shotguns are "self restricting" as: 1) They generally shoot either a single "blast" or single shot. Those hits with three rounds WILL BE counted as ONE hit as they strike at the same time and it would be unreasonable for a player to distinguish between the individual rounds (this instance is explained in the rules). Remember that a player may receive incoming rounds from several different locations and several different firearms at the same time and for a player, in play, to decide what's hit him out of what fired at him isn't always practical during gameplay. 2) They generally will not match the range or accuracy of an AEG. Some do put out fps ratings similar to an AEG but these are single shots and accuracy is not matched. 3) Magazine capacity is low. 20-25 rounds is the normal for a shotgun. This puts it firmly into the Tier Zero/Tier One range of firearms naturally. At the end of the day as with many LRP systems what damage a player takes can depend on the Role Play situation. IF I was caught strait up and shot point-blank by a shotgun (and I didn't have body armour) I'd most likely call myself to have taken at least two points of damage. However, if I did have body armour on, then I'd expect that to withstand the whole blast (its what its for).
