Just when you thought Parcel Force (or Parcel Farce as we call them) were bad…UPS so completely screw a delivery up as to make the loyal workers at Royal Mail appear the most competent, hard working and professional people in the universe!
Our sorry story starts on the 7th of May 2009 when I place a nice, large (nearly £200) order with RSOV.com.
As usual, RSOV delivery exceptional customer service. One item was out of stock, we discuss this by email and they find a like-for-like replacement within 12 hours.
The order was sent out the SAME day (7th), and departed Hong Kong on the 8th.
A short stop over in Dubai to change planes and then to Cologne for entry into the EU (and by the grace of the other side of the world being a day ahead of us..)..the delivery arrives in the UK (East Midlands Airport) in the evening of the 7th.
Yay! My parcel has achieved TIME TRAVEL!
Note that times and dates are from UPS’s own tracking system and are based on local times.
The parcel was passed to Customs and Excise, more details were requested….not a problem so I pass my UKARA details over and fill out UPS’s firearms declaration form as there were RiF’s included in the shipment. So far..so good.
VAT and handling charges were incurred so, I pay these the next day (8th of May).
UPS now declare that the parcel is “now in transit for delivery”, scheduled delivery is on Monday (11th). The weekend passes I heed call to check tracking again…
..until Monday. I now find that my parcel, having cleared Customs and been handed back to UPS has been sent out for delivery too…dun-dun-duhhhh!!!...Cologne.
Wha…hang on…what!?! Cologne…hasn’t it been there already?? Yay, however, Cologne send the wayward package BACK to the UK (even THEY know it shouldn’t be there). However, Customs have to re-examine the package.
I am..how shall we say this…I am by this point PISSED OFF!! UPS get it significantly in the neck, I get several idiot call handlers before I speak to their Brokerage Team (who are sensible and actually try to help me). Whilst not accepting that they sent it out to Cologne and then back into the UK they tell me that Customs just want an email declaration from me about the RiF’s confirming they are Airsoft and cannot be converted to fire live rounds (well…Duhhhh!).
Email done and accepted by Customs on the 11th. So, my parcel goes out for delivery again…I hold my breath and YES, it is actually out for delivery to my house this morning (12th)!
Delivery is made and….the driver wants the Customs charges paying on the door.
My wife, knowing I’d paid already rightly refused the delivery. Another somewhat heated exchange with UPS results in a pledge to turn the driver around and get delivery today.
They have excepted the extra Customs charges and accepted they screwed up (finally).
Delivery hasn’t been made just yet but I think I have high hopes now….
*Phew*writing this down has helped me exorcise the anger built up…so far. Thank you for putting up with my rant.
