Whilst I am still waiting for Gunman to get back to me with actual confirmed dates I have committed to them to hold an event at their Tuddenham site in January/February 2010.
There are several significant changes that I know for certain I have to make from the event planned for Candleston.
1) Site size/scope – Whilst Tuddenham appears a good site is it certainly not as dense or as large as Candleston. This means I will be limiting player numbers more and this also changes the types of encounters I had planned, their timing and how they will be conducted.
2) Catering – There are NO catering facilities at Tuddenham. This means the event is likely to be self-catering. A whole departure from what I had planned and wanted to provide the players with as cooking your own meals means we may have to allocate OOC time during the day for players to do this or players miss out on plot just so they can eat…not a situation I’m happy with. Tip here is to look seriously at military grade food and cooking – www.cadetdirect.com – have a range of ready to eat meals (Wayfarer range) that are cheap (£3.70 a meal), have the correct calorific content and are easy to cook (all boil in the bag like Army Rat-Pack stuff). They also sell niceties such as Biscuit Browns and Biscuit Fruit in individual packs, and of course all the cooking kit you’d need.
3) General Facilities – These are quite sparse I come to understand. The facilities are sufficient for the normal “day” games run at the site but we could encounter issues with our Friday-Sunday event. I will be reviewing provision of Toilets, Water and Power with Josh at Gunman and looking at the options open to us. IF we have to provide our own power, water and extra “comfort” facilities then so be it but the ticket prices would have to reflect any extra costs involved.
4) Ticket Price – All this said, I am HOPING that I can reduce the ticket prices for players anyway. Whilst the site hire itself is much cheaper than Candleston the lacking in facilities are certain to mean extra costs to it may end up being the same price. I can’t answer this question completely as yet though.
5) Scenario Change – With plot having to be adapted to the different size of site and players I am changing the Scenario entirely. New details will be issued once I’ve thought it through completely but this is no longer a “Training” mission in any form. The format will be much more akin to a Commando insertion raid on a former Imperial planet that’s been infested/taken over by Chaos and I’m hoping to divide the players into three factions – Imperial Agents, Chaos Occupation & Civilian (both loyal and disloyal) – some will be just players other slots will be filled by NPC’s and Directed PC’s. In this matter I am aided greatly by the Ver.V rules which I am compiling now…they allow greater scope for players wishing to play a wider variety of characters (in particular the Civilian specific rules) and makes the system much more open to players who already have existing Sci-Fi / Fantasy kit and want to try the system.
6) Ammo & Weapons – Due to the nature of the site I am also considering limiting not only ammo but types of ranged weapons to Tier 0 – 1 only. With the Core damage rules being potentially very deadly, several people with Tier 2 weapons could very well do such significant damage in the beginning of the event as to render much of the plot and roleplay opportunities impotent. Of course there may be scope for use of higher Tier weapons under a directed setting however.
I am trying again here. I need the support of as many of you as possible, HUGH thanks have to go to Gunman for stepping in with the offer early on and sticking by what they said, also thanks go to those forum members who supported “Training Day” and have already stated they are happy to attend an alternative event.
