Now that is impressive. If we came up with a design for a 9th Rifles version that could take a working radio...could you build it for us? Compensation would of course be forthcoming

I think its not a good idea to equip an fighting airsoftmen with this weight.... What do you mean with an working radio...an PMR or LPD handy? Or an military clansman..or CB....? Questions over Questions... Greets Watts

Nothing fancy, probably just a personal radio. I dont think the 9th can afford a clansman yet and if we did have one, we'd probably just use the clansman haha An easy way to takeweight off for us is that we won't need the body armour aspect of it

Might be lighter made from plywood or insulating board?
I do agree that actually fighting with that one would be prohibitive in the least!
Do you have plans for this that you could make available for us to use? Actually, seeing the vast range of wonderful things you’ve made from Lasguns to Bolters and helmets and armour…do you have plans of any of these you could make available?
LT you have amazing skills with metal, ever thought of using other materials though, such as building a vacuum former and using plastics?

Gor/Strauss/Strauss : It is allowed to use military radios in the Uk outside the army? We use, the PMR handy for range to 5km´s to stay in contact with the patrol ;)I store one in the box on the right side of the radio. @manius: For the radio there is only an fast done concept sketch and some picture from the forge page. But all things stored at my home, I can measure the parts and can do some drawings, not technical perfect like an constructor...but that you can work with.. What is the most interesting piece for you? Plastic....urggll..we talk sometimes about this...it ist not really my material. I had experimented with the aramid, but I´m not happy using this... At this time I working on my elysian armour (Breast plate) I do it in the steel version, because I like it.. ;D I have seen members of the 501.Imperial German Garrison on an event last year. That all is toy equipment....not really impressive. On the distance it looks great, if there are many of them looks genius....but in detail...NO...that is not warhammer-like War-equipment... The only one I´ll make with this material are the Rockets for an future-coming Rocket launcher and the mortar shells... Greets Watts

It is perfectly legal to use military radios in the UK but you need a broadcast license.

LT – Rocket launcher and mortar!! Ok, looking forward to seeing those.
Mainly interested in some basic plans for the radio housing and boltgun. Both are plausible items that our 9th members can use but you appear to have already got the dimensions, look and general shape already sorted out.
Thought it might be a good idea to keep it all much like it came from a S.T.C. (Standard Template Construct).
I have to agree that plastics can look poor if used on the wrong items. However, weapon housings would be a good one to actually use plastics on for Airsoft based conversions. Armour…oh no! Plastic DOES look nasty for your type of heavier armour I’ll 100% agree with you on that.
Fibreglass is better but hotter to wear.
Besides, the 9th are Light Infantry…flexible body armour!
As for the radio housing, its too large I feel to make from plastics and get it to hang convincingly or hold a radio securely. However, plywood might be an option (and certainly easy to work with)…ideally I’d like a working radio with a telephone style handset contained inside and in my experience even PMR’s aren’t that great for tactical use.
I’m open to the rest of the 9th working to develop a radio that’ll fit the pattern and has the handset as specified above. Time to search the surplus stores for field telephones!

After making afew props out of plastic, I find if the paint job is poor then the whole thing looks rubbish. Wood can be a bit heavy and not as durable but wood can be easier to craft..... depends on what your making...... Fibre glass can give good results but is a pain in the arse (Plus I get an allergic reaction to it ) I'm gonna use 8mm HDPE (High-density polyethylene) for my carapace armour 'cause it's easy to cut (as easy as wood) and I can shape it with a heat gun (Plus I have a near infinate supply ;D)
