Would a solution not be to have a 'trader' in the camp who simply follows the 9th about? But changing with the campaigns/theatres etc. That way we have as it were a centralised black market with one person moderating and recording all transactions and what not.

Ok the idea is forming better in my head and deserves its own thread which I’ll make once I’ve formulated a basic rule page for currency and related.
To answer the questions here directly though first.
Trader – yes…and no. My idea is that each faction has there own mobile trader. They either have a more permanent presence (tent) or are fully mobile (off the back of there spacecraft) this also means that players can put themselves forward as a “Trader” using there own abilities.
What I was considering is the following:
The Imperial Central Bank Munitorium will be a persistent presence at events, the ICBM will not have the same person sitting at the desk each event or each day but accepts all currencies for all known races (cash is cash!).
The ICBM are not only a bank but also money lenders and pawn brokers (a cunning way to get special items recycled).
Each race have there own currency (initially represented by differing coloured laminated cards…quite small, say about 1” x 2”).
Imperial Credits – all Imperial residents. Red cards
Golden Groats – Orkoids (sometimes referred to as golden grots) Gold/yellow cards
Ivory Tallons – Eldar and associated. White cards
Die Wealds – Chaos. Black cards
Tau Scale – Tau and associated. Purple cards
Eventually it’ll be nice to have the currencies represented by a better physical form (some specifically moulded toy money) but I’m considering the idea that players have currency just debited into their player account and they can withdraw cash from the Imperial banker at events if/when needed. This prevents pre-game packs being bogged down with hard currency in any form and allows on the gate paying players to access there money immediately if needed.
The skill advancement system is fully “virtual” so there is no reason why the currency cannot be also.
Value – to save confusion I will contest that each currency has evolved to balance the value of the other so:
1 IC = 1 DW = 1 GG = 1 IT = 1 TS
I also envisage currencies only being issued in hard form in 10’s at this stage. I mean, if something costs less than 10 of a currency its usually pretty small and insignificant and this system is designed mainly to enable purchase of more valuable items.
Inflation and valuation of the economic system will be done by the ICBM at the start of every year so currencies can devalue or increase in value depending on what occurs at events.
