I've been wondering why the 9th went for a US ALICE type webbing? From what Ihave been told the black stuff from flecktarn isn't very good quality! l've also seen that some of the forum members are using M65 webbing. But this is proving to be difficult to find in 'man' sizes, the same goes for 37/44 pattern British webbing. So I'm thinking of getting some German (flecktarn) webbing then attacking it with black dye.

Well there's no hard and fast rules for our webbing... The general idea is to keep it grunt basic - no modern molle etc - mass produced bog standard kit. Members are encouraged to mix and match between types to give it a rough and ready, field customised look. The general rule is if it works and looks the part, wear it.
My own set has US WWII bits, M56, LC1, LC2 and British 58patt components...
And yes, the black LC2 stuff from flecktarn is cack - I binned everything bar the belt after it's first trip into the field...

I can suggest getting an ALICE H harness as I believe our illustrious Lt here does. The Y harness is badly unbalanced. If we can keep the base belt, harness & at least one ammo pouch ALICE then the rest is really what ever works I would be a happy man.

If you can get it in black there are some modern "Y" and "H" harnesses available. I've seen them but not noted if they are available in black.
58 pattern would also be acceptable and being cloth "attackable" with dye.
Basically, we wanted an "old skool" look as IG tend to be portrayed in this odd mix of WWI/WWII and futuristic kit.

It's a US M56 harness I've got, and yeah, the H style is much better then the Y... I got a really beaten up old one from fleabay dirt cheap, looks the mutts nutts... Though oddly, the black dye didn't take well (should have done as it's canvas) so it's just a darker green, which I can live with... it adds to the lived in look...
EDIT; also, must take more pics, as I've bodged on a '58patt poncho carrier for all my poncho carrying needs...

I kind of went with the M56 ammo pouches as they fit the 20 round 'vietnam' mags a bit better than the ALICE ones, plus I have to admit I never liked the ALICE clip closures as they are very distinctively American.
If we're going with H Harnesses I'll dye one of my spare M56 ones.

Interesting mix up of camo and styles... what army is the last one? It looks danish M84 but I don't think it is, too many shades of green. layers of plasterzote foam on hard board wood, so it is not too heavy (and LARP safe) I get that from my re-enacting group too!

I ´d shown your camo in my other german forum( military vehicles). The widespread meaning is, that this camo is not in official use in any army. The wife of one of the forum members works in an camo textile factory some years ago. She said, that there are many different camo styles in production only for commercial use...
But hey.....its an cool camo... ;D Greets Watts

Yeah, I guessed it was a commerial camo, (like the one I'm wearing) which is even better cause no army uses it, so it's one of a kind!

Taht's a mighty guardy look you've got going on there! I rather like the mix of equipment and styles... it all looks a bit rough around the edges - as it should!!! Also puttees... now there's dedication for you!
